Pachai Mochai Gravy - Green Mochai Kuzhambu - Lima beans / Field beans gravy - Protein rich low calorie Diabetic diet

Pachai Mochai gravy or field beans gravy is one of the most popular Idli dosa or pongal side dish in Vellore district. This is a seasonal recipe which tastes good and is also a protein rich dish. Try this simple gravy in your kitchen and enjoy.




Ingredients needed for making Pachai mochai gravy

Pachai Mochai / fresh field beans
Onion - 1
Salt as required
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp.
Red chilli powder - 1 tbsp.
Coriander powder - 2 tbsp.
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Broken urad dal - 1 tsp.
A sprig of curry leaves
A small bunch of coriander leaves

To grind
Tomatoes - 4
Grated coconut - 4 tbsp.
Tamarind paste - 2 tsp.
Fennel seeds - 1 tsp.
Cloves - 2
Milagu / Pepper corn - 1 tsp.

Method for making Pachai Mochai Gravy

 1. Grind the ingredients given under grind to a smooth paste by adding water as required.

2. Heat oil in a pan,  splutter the mustard seeds add the urad dal and then add in the onions. Saute onions till soft. Add in the salt, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Saute well.

3. Now add in the ground paste, saute well.

4. Add the pachai mochai / field beans saute for 5 seconds.

5. Add 2 cups of water and close with a lid.

6. Allow this to cook in a low flame for 15 minutes or pressure cook for 1 whistle.
 
Now the Pachai mochai gravy is ready to be served with chapati or rice.
