Tangy Spicy Pineapple Rasam - Annazhi Pazha Rasam- Festival Recipes

Pineapple Rasam is one of my favorite recipes which my mom makes during festival time. It is a tasty tangy rasam with the taste of pineapple. The pineapple slice is mashed and the juice of it blends together with the pepper rasam. Try this tasty spicy Pineapple rasam and enjoy.

Ingredients for making Pineapple Rasam

Pineapple - 2 slices
Tomato - 2
Tamarind - small lemon size
Rasam powder - 1 tsp.
Cooked toor dal - 1/4 cup
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves for garnish
Pepper - 1 tsp.
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp.
Garlic cloves - 3
Ghee - 2 tsp.
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida - a pinch
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Red chillies - 1

Method for making Pineapple Rasam

1. Pressure cook the toor dal and keep it ready.

2. Grind the pepper, jeera and garlic cloves to a coarse paste.

3. Cut the pineapple into slices and grind this in a mixie. Keep about 4 or 5 slices as such without grinding.

4. Grind 1 tomato to a paste and chop the other one into small pieces. Extract the pulp of tamarind.

5. Heat ghee in a kadai and splutter the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Next add the coarsely ground pepper-cumin and saute for a while next add the pineapple paste, chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, rasam powder, tamarind pulp and mix well.

6. When the mixture starts boiling add the mashed toor dal and pineapple pieces and mix well. Allow this to boil for 3 minutes. Next add the chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with white rice.
