Bajji is one of the Crispy, yummy, tasty and popular evening tea-time snack, which is served in all the hotels in Tamilnadu. This is a easy to make snack which can be prepared within minutes using Bengal gram flour. The taste of the bajji mainly depends upon the quality of Bengal gram flour. Always use fresh and high quality bengal gram flour available in departmental stores. Check the date of manufacture. Try this soft and crispy Onion bajji in your kitchen.



Ingredients for making Vengaya Bajji

Bengalgram dal flour (kadalai maavu) – 2 cups
Rice flour - 2 tbsp.
Onions - 3
Water- ½ cup
Chilly powder- 3 tsps.
A pinch of asafoetida
Cooking soda- 1/2tsp.
Salt as required
Oil for frying

Method for making Tamil Snacks Recipe Vengaya Bajji

1. Remove the skin and Cut the onions into thin round slices.

2. Mix the bengram flour, chilly powder, rice flour, hing, cooking soda with required amount of water to get a thick coating consistency.

3. Heat oil in a kadai, now dip the onion slices in the batter so that it gets fully coated and then drop this in the hot oil and fry till you get a golden brown colour on both sides.

5. Drain the excess oil from the onion hajjis by using a tissue paper.

Serve the hot onion bajji with coconut chutney or kothamalli chutney.

Other Bhajji Varieties: Instead of onion you can use potato, capsicum, brinjal, vazhaikai or plantain. You can also dip the bread slices in the above batter to prepare tasty bread bhajji.
