Poondu Sadam


Ingredients required to make Garlic Rice

Raw Rice - 1 cup
Onions - 2
Salt as required

To temper:
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dal - 1 tsp.
A pinch of asafoetida
Curry leaves - few
Garlic - 5 small finely chopped
A bunch of coriander leaves

To roast and grind to a paste:
Garlic - 7 small
Red Chillies - 3 to 4
Coriander seeds - 1/2 tsp.
Grated coconut - 3tbsp.
Channa Dal - 2 tbsp.
Urad dhal - 1 tbsp.

How to prepare Garlic Rice

1. Wash and pressure cook the raw rice with 2 cups water of water, allow them to cool, set aside.

2. Heat little oil in a pan, add all the ingredients given under to roast and grind one by one, saute well, allow them to cool and grind them to a coarse powder.

3. In the same pan, add little more oil and add all the items given under tempering, then add the chopped onions and then add ground coconut mixture along with required salt and saute for few seconds.

4. Now add the cooked rice and mix everything well together.

Spicy garlic rice is ready to be served. Goes well with Potato curry or Chips.
