Paruppu Sadham / Dal Rice - Easy Kids Lunchbox recipe

Ingredients for making Paruppu Saadam

Raw Rice – 1 cup
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Red chilli - 1 No.
Turmeric  - ¼ tsp.
Salt – to taste
Ghee - 2 tsp.
Jeera - 1 tsp.
A pinch of Asafoetida
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
A sprig of Curry leaves
Few Coriander leaves

Method for making Paruppu Saadam

1. Wash the rice and cook this by adding 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker. Wait for 3 whistles.

2. Wash the dal, soak in water for 15 to 20 minutes, add turmeric powder and cook this in a pressure cooker.

3. Mash the dal well with a ladle, add the ghee.

4. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the mustard seeds, add jeera, curry leaves, chilli
and asafoetida and pour this to the dal.

5. Mash the cooked rice with ladle and add the dal to the cooked rice along with the required amount of salt and mix well.

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Now the yummy arisi pappu sadam is ready to pack for your kid in the lunch box. Serve this with carrot poriyal, beans poriyal or potato curry.
