Milagu Jeeraga Rasam / Pepper and Cumin Rasam - In Traditional Grandmothers Style

Milagu Jeeraga Rasam is one of the healthy recipe with good medicinal value. This rasam mixed with white rice is a good combination and this helps in curing cough and cold and also cures indigestion. This is my grandmothers recipe which she makes when I suffer from cough and cold.

Ingredients for making Milagu Jeeraga Rasam

Cooked Toor dal - 2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Black Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli- 2
Tamarind paste – 1 tsp
A sprig of Curry leaves
Water -3 cups
Ghee - 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida powder - 1/4 tsp
Tomatoes - 2
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste

Method for making Tamil Recipe Milagu Jeeraga Rasam

• Roast the cumin seeds, pepper, red chillies and grind them in a mixer.

• Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the mustard seeds, add asafoetida, then add the finely chopped tomatoes and saute well.

• Add the tamarind paste, cooked dal, curry leaves, salt and the ground powder.

• Allow this to boil.

• Garnish with coriander leaves.

Now the milagu jeeraga rasam is ready.
