Rice Jaggery Kheer / Arisi Vella Payasam - Traditional Festival Recipe

Rice payasam is one of the traditional festival recipe of Tamilnadu which tastes well and is good for health. This is healthy because we never use sugar in this recipe and we use only jaggery for the sweet taste.Try this yummy arisi payasam and enjoy this traditional taste.

Ingredients for making Festival recipe Rice Payasam

1 cup raw rice
1 cup grated jaggery
1 cup water
1 litre milk
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
1 tbsp ghee
10-12 cashewnuts
1 tbsp raisins

Method for making Rice Payasam

1. Fry cashewnuts and raisins in ghee till it becomes golden brown in color. Transfer this to a bowl.

2. In the same pan add the grated jaggery with little amount of water, allow this to melt, always use a medium flame.

3.  Boil milk in a heavy bottomed vessel and then add the nicely cleaned rice. Cook the rice in milk till it becomes soft in consistency. Stir well so that it does not stick to the bottom of the vessel.

4. Now add the melted jaggery mixture, stir well and cook till it gets blended. Next add the roasted nuts and cardamom powder.

5. Now the rice payasam is ready to be served either warm or chill.
